 .NOTES.
The history of Asteroid is a psychedelic space saga, timeless and endless, with
no upside or downside, but with a beautiful ending. The band, formed during the
winter of 2003, has undertaken a long musical journey and developed a sound well
fit to the trio constellation. After being formed as a regular stoner band, it
didn`t take long before new grounds were conquered. Since then, influences have
been collected from blues and British 70s classic rock, but also from Swedish
traditional folk music.

Asteroid is now back with their second album, called simply II. It is a more
evolved but also relaxed and groovy follow up to their highly acclaimed
self-titled debut album.

This time they locked themselves up in a studio deep in the forest, trying to
capture the raw and naked sound and feeling in their music. You will hear a
tighter, heavier, but also darker Asteroid. You will still recognize the
characteristic energy in the sound and feel the joy delivered by the musicians.

This record is like transporting yourself back to the psychedelic woods of
Sweden, but unlike other 70s influences bands this is also fresh and unique on
its own. Asteroid is today a well-known live act all over Europe with constant
touring and a reputation of wild and sweaty live shows. Hold on to your hats!

John Hiatt – The Open Road (2010)
John Hiatt - The Open Road (2010)
MP3 Format, 160 Kbps, 54 MB
Looking at life through the rearview mirror was the inspiration for John Hiatt s brand new album, The Open Road. A classic Hiatt record, the rockin songs sizzle with the heat from two-lane blacktop on a summer s day. Hiatt and his touring band (Kenny Blevins on drums, Patrick O Hearn on bass and Doug Lancio on guitars) recorded a set that gives Garage Rock a new meaning. All the other years, my songs are about coming home, Hiatt says. But within these 11 new songs including Haulin and the title track The Open Road home is never the destination.
This a great return to form for John. I saw him recently with Lyle Lovett and I thought he was dreadful….in fact I would say it was the worst concert in a long time but this CD is superb. After hearing the live version I wasn’t looking forward to this but this has repaired everything….but he does need a band like the one playing on this album. Enjoy.

Sting – If On A Winter’s Night… (2009)
Mp3 | VBR 320 Kbps | 122 Mb
Genre: Pop, Soft Rock, Acoustic

If on a Winter’s Night presents an arc of songs that conjure the season of spirits, the eerie silences of the snow; days of solitude and reflection for some, a time of re-birth and celebration for many. With traditional music of the British Isles as their starting point, Sting and his guest musicians draw the listener in through a collection of songs, carols, and lullabies spanning the centuries – such as The Snow it Melts the Soonest (traditional Newcastle ballad), Soul Cake (traditional English “begging” song) Gabriel’s Message (14th century carol), as well as two of Sting’s own compositions – Lullaby for an Anxious Child and The Hounds of Winter. Also featured on the album is Hurdy Gurdy Man – a musical reworking and English translation (by Sting) of Der Leiermann from Schubert’s classic winter song-cycle Winterreise. For this exploration of the themes and emotions of winter Sting is joined by friend and long time colleague, guitarist Dominic Miller – and an ensemble of three remarkable musicians from Northern England and Scotland: Kathryn Tickell (fiddle and Northumbrian pipes) Julian Sutton (melodian) and Mary MacMaster (metal string Scottish harp). Additional guest artists include Vincent Ségal (cello), Daniel Hope (violin), Chris Botti (trumpet), Ibrahim Maalouf (trumpet), Stile Antico (vocal ensemble), Cyro Baptista (percussion), Bijan Chemirani (percussion) and the Webb Sisters (vocals). Together they’ve created an album with a wonderful, warm, and unique ensemble sound – an acoustic meditation on winter. %u201D

- Release Notes ————————————————————- -

Enjoy this absolute classic remastered in 2009 from the original tapes. It
also includes the Savory EP as bonus tracks. Definitely one of my favorite
cds for the past 10 or 12 years. Enjoy, and buy it, especially if you don’t
have the original. Your collection is pathetic if it doesn’t include this CD.

”Jawbox was born circa 1989, clawing their way from the primordial pond of
DC’s raucous, vibrant, Dischord driven underground to claim a seat of honor
at the table of what eventually came to be called “postharDCore.” The racket
raised by the four members – J. Robbins, Kim Coletta, W. C. 3dB Barbot, and
Zach Barocas – was suitably loud, occasionally fast, and spirited enough live
to move the punkers around the dance floor in something considerably less
than a decorous fashion. But by the time the mature band came to record their
third full-length, their first for a major label after amicably leaving
Dischord, they had distanced themselves somewhat from their purely post-punk
roots and were more intent on breeding strident wolves clad in a pop song’s
clothing. For Your Own Special Sweetheart, whose title was cribbed from the
box blurb for a Barbie doll, was released by Atlantic Records right around
Valentine’s Day 1994, to cries of both ôgeniusö and ôselloutö to their
respectively thrilled and bemused fans. As they toured, praise accumulated.
Although the foursome lasted 3 years and a final full-length before the
inevitable break-up, critics and fans alike still view Sweetheart as the band
at its peak, with its heavy rhythms, guitar-driven noise, and hooky melodies
proving the signature to Jawbox’s sound. But the two-record stint on Atlantic
proved problematic for keeping the record alive on vinyl and CD; despite the
praise, the collection quickly went out of print. Further, the band often
bemoaned the ômissing mid-rangeö and anemic-sounding low-end of the final
release. A dusting-off was due, and salvation came in the form of Dischord
and Chicago Mastering Service’s Bob Weston. The former agreed to re-release
the record on both CD and vinyl; the latter was the obvious choice for the
remaster, given his long history both with the band and with the genre. The
resulting release on CD includes the entire original collection, plus three
additional tracks that originally appeared on the Savory + 3 EP released by
Atlantic in 1994. The vinyl version includes a coupon to enable free digital
download of all songs, including the bonus tracks.”

Bette Midler – The Divine Miss M (1972)

Amazon.com essential recording
Was Bette Midler playing on the title of Dinah Washington’s The Swingin’ Miss D when she named her 1972 debut? Washington would’ve been proud of this album’s tune stack, which makes a sensuous slow-jam classic of “Do You Want to Dance?” by Bobby Freeman, salutes the Andrews Sisters’ “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy,” and produces signature pieces of John Prine’s “Hello in There” and Buzzy Linhart’s “Friends.” Midler might not have set out to reinvent the wheel, but on her first try, she outdid Barbra Streisand in taste, wit, and yes, sophistication. –Rickey Wright

Funkadelic – Let’s Take It To The Stage (1975)

Funkadelic - Let's Take It To The Stage (1975)

One of Funkadelic’s goofiest releases, Let’s Take It to the Stage also contains more P-Funk all-time greats as well, making for a grand balance of the serious and silly. Perhaps the silliest is at the end — there’s not much else one can call the extended oompah/icing rink start of “Atmosphere.” The title track is as much a call to arms as “Free Your Mind and Your Ass Will Follow” is, but with a more direct musical performance and a more open nod to party atmospheres (not to mention the source of one of Andrew Dice Clay’s longest-running bits). The targets of the band’s good-natured wrath are, in fact, other groups — “Hey, Fool and the Gang! Let’s take it to the stage!” There’s no mistaking the track that immediately follows makes it even more intense — “Get off Your Ass and Jam” kicks in with one bad-ass drum roll and then scorches the damn place down, from guitar solo to the insanely funky bass from Bootsy Collins. It may only be two and a half minutes long, but it alone makes the album a classic. Hearing Collins’ unmistakable tones is usually enough to get anything on the crazy tip, but “Be My Beach” just makes it all the more fun, as does the overall air of silly romance getting nuttier as it goes. “Good to Your Earhole” sets the outrageous mood just right — it’s one of the band’s tightest monsters of funk, guitars sprawling all over the place even as the heavy-hitting rhythm doesn’t let one second of groove get lost. Of course, there’s also one totally notorious number to go with it, but “No Head No Backstage Pass” has one of the craziest rhythms on the whole album, not to mention lip-smackingly nutty lines delivered with the appropriate leer.
