Stone Sour is the debut studio album by American hard rock band Stone Sour. It was recorded and produced by the band and Tom Tatman at Catamount Studios in Cedar Falls, Iowa, and was released on August 27, 2002, through Roadrunner Records. Writing for the album began in 2000 while vocalist Corey Taylor was still actively involved in his other band, Slipknot. After producing some demos with Stone Sour, he and guitarist Josh Rand decided that they should put a band together. Work began on the album after Slipknot had gone on hiatus following touring in support of their second album Iowa.
Following the release of the album, Stone Sour went on to promote it for almost a year; releasing three singles and touring in several regions, including the United States and several countries in Europe. The album received generally positive reviews. It was praised for showing a diversity in Taylor’s vocals, which was not presented in Slipknot’s early albums. It was also certified Gold in the United States and two singles from the album received Grammy Award nominations for Best Metal Performance in consecutive years.

Born and raised on the West Side of Chicago, Ron Haynes began his musical career while still in his teens, gigging with blues artists like Tyrone Davis, Otis Clay and Artie “Blues Boy” White as well as with his own band. He honed his lead trumpet, music reading and soloing skills while attending Shaw University in Raleigh, N.C., and later transferred to North Carolina Central University in Durham, N.C., where he studied under jazz great Donald Byrd.
Ron was an early recruit to Liquid Soul and recorded on all four of the band’s CDs, including “Here’s the Deal,” which was Grammy-nominated in 2001 for Best Contemporary Jazz Album. In October 1997, Ron released his first CD as a solo artist, “Cool Work,” consisting mostly of original songs and arrangements written by him and long-time friend Spright E. Simpson III. On his Cool Work tour, he promoted the disc by playing in such Midwestern clubs as the Cubby Bear, the Note, the Backroom and the Green Room. Ron’s second CD as a leader, “Can You Hear Me?”, was released in 2003 and can be purchased on the Buy CDs page.
In recent years, Ron has been increasingly active in the studio. Working with renowned producer and keyboardist Ramsey Lewis, he is featured on the acclaimed contemporary jazz CD Urban Knights IV. He also has a featured role on Urban Knights Presents the Chicago Project produced by Frayne Lewis, plus he played on Mike Manson’s latest CD. Stay tuned for Two Man Crew, a special upcoming CD featuring original compositions by Ron and Liquid Soul’s drummer, Victor Baker.
In February 2005, Ron became a member of Lenny Kravitz’s horn section. Since then, Lenny’s Electric Church and Celebration tours have taken Ron all over the United States, plus South America and Europe.
